Gamma Oryzanol, commonly called rice bran oil, is nothing but a blend of ferulic acid and sterols and other similar substances derived from rice bran oil. In the United States, it is used to reduce cholesterol and also as sports supplement while in Japan, it is used to treat several conditions ranging from menopausal symptoms and mild anxiety to high cholesterol and stomach upset. Although rice bran oil remains the primary source of gamma oryzanol, it also exists in fruits, vegetables, herbs, and bran of wheat and other grains. However, you may need to take supplements for treating certain conditions. Research does not indicate the association of any side effects with the use of gamma oryzanol supplements. Similarly, there is no evidence to support their efficacy and safety during pregnancy and lactation.
